On the night of 3 to 4 June 1989, a gas explosion occurred on the Asha-Ulu-Telyak stretch due to a gas pipeline failure.

At that moment two counter trains came to the place of the accident: Adler-Novosibirsk and Novosibirsk-Adler.

As a result of the explosion, both compositions were completely destroyed, about 1000 people died (accurate data are still not available).

The investigation into the disaster case was originally initiated by officials from the Ministry of the Gas Industry, top-ranking leaders who They demanded to take a gas pipeline with numerous shortcomings, however, in a few months the case was terminated, and only a few builders appeared before the court.

The Ashinskaya catastrophe is the peak of the consequences of the existence of an ineffective, emergency economic system, a system of general irresponsibility that has been shaking the USSR for 70 years.
